Mr Andrew V Cavallo MB.BS (Melbourne) Dip Anat FRACS (Plastics) is a specialist Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon working in both public and private hospitals in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society.

Andrew was born in Melbourne and educated at Xavier College.  He attended Melbourne University and St Vincent’s Hospital and obtained  his medical degree with honours in 1985.  Following his early surgical training at St Vincent’s he returned to Melbourne University to teach  Anatomy and Physiology and obtained his Diploma in Anatomy.  He returned to St Vincent’s as a Surgical Registrar following which he underwent  specialist Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgical training at the Alfred, Royal Melbourne, Royal Children’s, Royal Hobart, St Vincent’s, Western Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute obtaining his FRACS in Plastic Surgery in Melbourne in 1995.

Andrew then travelled to the United Kingdom for a postgraduate fellowship in Plastic  Reconstructive  and Hand Surgery at the prestigious Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow where he was later appointed Consultant Surgeon (1996).  He gained extra experience in  Hand Surgery (Adult and Paediatric) Breast Surgery  and Ear Surgery.  He then travelled to London, working with eminent Hand Surgeons at Windsor and Stanmore (Mr David Evans) and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children (Mr Paul Smith)(1997).

He returned to Melbourne in 1998 and was appointed Consultant Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon at the Austin, Box Hill, Maroondah and  Western Hospitals.  He has a number of journal publications and international conference presentations  on subjects ranging from Phalangeal Fractures, Congenital Hand deformities, Soft Tissue Reconstruction of Ischaemic Digits, Tumours of the Palm, Dupuytren’s Contracture, Melanoma Surgery and Flap reconstruction, and Prominent Ear correction.  He is an active  member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (since 1998) and the Australian Hand Surgery Society (since 1999).

Andrew has established rooms in Box Hill at the Elgar Hill Plastic and Hand Clinic (Suite 7/28 Arnold St ) together with Melbourne Hand Therapy lead by Jennifer Mathias.  He is currently operating in private at the Epworth Eastern Hospital as well as the Vermont Private and Ringwood Private Hospitals.  He maintains a strong public hospital role  at the Austin Hospital and was Head of Unit at the busy Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Unit at Maroondah Hospital, Ringwood for 10 years.
